Overview
Course Out Line:
This course will provide an overview of the fundamentals of surveying & levelling for practicing civil engineering students that either did not get exposed to surveying engineering in their civil engineering education or would like a refresher to review the latest surveying practice as it relates to civil engineering projects.
Introduction: Introduction to Concept & Principle of Surveying
Chain Survey & Linear Measurements: Field measurements, Field Book Keeping, & Plan Work.
Theodolite Surveying: Observing, booking and reducing, Horizontal angles, vertical angles and slope distances and detail Survey, Calculations – co-ordinates, angles, bearings, Preparing plan using field notes and calculating extent
Fundamentals of Leveling: Fundamentals of Leveling, Introduction to Leveling Instruments, Establishment of Bench mark for Leveling, Calculation Reduced Level
Road Longitudinal & Cross Section Theory & Practical for Road Longitudinal & Cross Section (LS&CS)
Introduction to Total Station Survey: Field data collection using Total Station & Data Downloading and Processing
Introduction to Construction Survey: Engineering Survey & Plan work, Setting outs of building and vertical & horizontal curves
Introduction to Global Positioning System (GPS): Introduction to GPS & Field data collection using Hand Held GPS & Processing.
